DEPARTMENT OF HOMELAND SECURITY/SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION OFFER E-VERIFY FREE TO EMPLOYERS

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and Social Security Administration (SSA) have partnered to offer employers free of charge the ability to verify Form I-9 information with data held by DHS and the SSA. The E-Verify system (formerly the Basic Pilot/Employment Eligibility Verification Program) is an online system that allows employers to check the work status of newly hired employees. FLORIDA'S FIRST DISTRICT COURT OF APPEALS FINDS 25% LIMITATION ON ATTORNEY'S FEES DOES NOT APPLY TO FCRA CLAIMS BROUGHT AGAINST PUBLIC EMPLOYERS

The Florida First District Court of Appeal has held that the 25% cap on attorney’s fees applicable in tort claims brought against public entities does not apply to employment discrimination claims filed under the Florida Civil Rights Act.
