SLF LABOR AND EMPLOYMENT ALERT      September 2007

Note to Employers:
2007 EEO-1 Reports are Due on September 30, 2007

Employers should be on alert that their 2007 EEO-1 Reports – formally known as the “Employer Information Report” – must be filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission's EEO-1 Joint Reporting Committee no later than September 30, 2007.  Employers should have received notification of the deadline in July of this year.  The EEO-1 Report must be filed by those who employ 100 or more employees; it must also be filed by certain federal government contractors and first-tier subcontractors.
The EEO-1 Report contains statistical information on the job category of employees and the ethnicity, race, and gender of the employees within those specified job categories.  The report does not contain information on job applicants.  Employers who must file an EEO-1 Report are encouraged to file through the EEOC’s web-based filing system.

For more information on EEO-1 Reports, please visit the EEOC’s information website at http://www.eeoc.gov/eeo1survey/.

Bill Introduced to Outlaw Discrimination Based Upon Sexual Orientation and Familial Status

A bill introduced in the Florida House of Representatives (HB 47) would outlaw discrimination in employment based upon sexual orientation and familial status. The bill would also prohibit discrimination in public lodging and food services establishments. Additionally, the bill would amend the State Fair Housing Act to prohibit discrimination in housing based upon sexual orientation, familial status and marital status. A copy of the bill may be viewed at the Florida House of Representatives website.
